AppTek's primary focus is on machine translation (MT) and automatic speech recognition (ASR). AppTek acquired AIXPLAIN in 2004, thereby adding a statistical MT to the originally rule-based MT. The two engines have since been merged into a hybrid machine translation engine covering many language pairs. AppTek has been involved in ASR since the acquisition of AIXPLAIN, for broadcast and telephony in various languages and dialects. Apptek was sold to SAIC in November of 2010.
